HFUMC Kids Weekend 2023

WHAT IS KIDS WEEKEND?
Kids Weekend at HFUMC is an exciting new experience taking the place of Vacation Bible School and Kids Camp. It is an opportunity for kids to meet together for 4 days and 3 nights jam packed with fun, games, time outdoors, Christian fellowship, and spiritual growth.
Staying on campus allows us to keep our kids safe, clean, well fed, and comfortable as they are able to explore the walls of their home church while building strong relationships with each other and the adults who they live and worship in community with.
Kids Weekend is designed to not only serve the kids who attend church at HFUMC, but also their guests! We have spent time and attention creating a more intimate atmosphere with adequate time for those guests to become comfortable and engaged with our church.
When and Where?
Overnighter Weekend Starts on Thursday, June 15th @ 4:00 P.M. and will go through Sunday, June 18th @ 12:00 P.M.
Puzzling Pyramids Day-Camp will take place on Saturday, June 11th from 9:00 A.M. till 4:00 P.M. and on Sunday from 9:00 A.M. till 12:00 P.M.
Both options will be predominantly hosted at our church, First UMC of Hendersonville, with the overnighters going on a couple off campus trips.
Who is eligible to attend?
This year there are two registration options:
Over-Nighters: Kids rising to 3rd-7th grades are invited to join us for a 3-night camp-like experience. Kids will be dropped off on Thursday afternoon between 4:00 P.M. and 5:00 P.M., and will go home on Sunday at 12:00 P.M. If your child is old enough to attend the overnight option, we highly encourage this. So many great relationships are formed with the groups who are here for the long haul.
Puzzling Pyramids Day-Campers Only: Kids rising into Kindergarten through 2nd grade are invited to join us from 9:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. on Saturday and 9:00 A.M.-12:00 P.M. This time is filled with themed rotations, worship, and games. Lunch and Snack is included on Saturday.
What are this year’s details?
We are excited to share that our theme this year is Puzzling Pyramids. A week out from Kids Weekend, kids will receive a postcard assigning them to an Archeology Crew. Throughout the weekend the kids will work together to solve riddles, complete puzzles, and uncover clues that will unlock the puzzling pyramid.
Our curriculum walks through the amazing and miraculous life of Moses. Kids will learn that God loves them, He is in control, and will use all things according to his purpose!
This year we have some amazing new experiences planned.
Our overnighters will get to spend all day Friday at New Frontiers Camp in Dowelltown, TN. New Frontiers has a full day of outdoor activities planned for us and will also provide lunch that day.
On Saturday we are adding a special surprise guest to our Saturday plans and will have several camp-like outdoor activities and VBS rotations.
Once registered and closer to the event, parents will be sent an information packet about our 2023 leadership and how to prepare their child for Kids Weekend. Also included will be paperwork to be filled out and turned in at drop-off.
What is the cost?
The Cost for Overnighters is $125.00. This includes the day fee for New Frontiers, costs of the Bus rental, and cost coverage for the chaperones. All activities, rentals, supplies, and a t-shirt are included for free. Discounts are offered for Early Bird Registration and Over-Night Parent Volunteers.
Survivor Saturday is free. Food, activities, supplies and an event t-shirt is included.

this sounds so fun, how can i join in on the fun as an adult?
We never like to send away a willing participant; however at HFUMC, we have strict guidelines in place to protect all children and adults who are involved in our programming. In order to be hands on at our events, you will need to have been an active participant at our church for at least six months. You will need a background check and will also need to attend our in-house Safe Sanctuaries Training with a qualified trainer.
If you have been around for six months and want to be a part of the action, reach out to Brittany May, the Children’s Director. She can get the ball rolling for you to join our team. There are jobs for everyone!
If you are new to our church, but would still like to feel like you are an active part of what is happening during Kids Weekend, all parents will be issued the same devotional material we are giving the children. You will also be assigned to a tribe just like the kids. All parents will be added to a closed Facebook group where we will share pictures, Facebook lives, and short video clips of the happenings during the weekend.
Parents will be encouraged to follow along with us in learning and prayer to earn points for their tribe. We will also host a few online challenges. All parent points earned will be awarded every night during the tribal council. So, this means parents can support kids at Kids Weekend remotely!
