HENDERSONVILLE FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH FILLING FOOD BACKPACKS TO MEET URGENT NEEDS OF NEARLY 250 HOMELESS AND FOOD INSECURE CHILDREN IN SUMNER COUNTY SCHOOL SYSTEM

HFUMC coordinating efforts with the Sumner County Schools Board of Education to help send hungry school children home with backpacks of non-perishables

Hendersonville, Tenn.— Women in Faith and church members from Hendersonville First United Methodist Church (HFUMC), at 217 E. Main Street in Hendersonville, will begin stuffing backpacks for children with over 650 food items on Thursday morning, November 17, 2022 at 8:00 a.m. Once filled with food, the backpacks will be loaded onto trucks and driven to the Sumner County Board of Education to distribute to hundreds of children in need in our community.

The Sumner County Board of Education coordinates with HFUMC on a regular basis to serve this need in the community, and has been providing the service for decades, however, this special and urgent plea came from the Board of Education volunteer coordinator, when word was received that an unprecedented 237 homeless and food insecure children in the school system in Sumner County needed our help.

HFUMC member, Shirley Cooper, is coordinating church efforts, “This was really kind of a desperation call. We normally don’t see this many children in need this early in the season,” said Cooper.

Hendersonville, Tenn.— The local Lakeshore Quilters Guild will host a Veterans Day ceremony on Monday, November 14, 2022 at 10 a.m. in the Hendersonville First United Methodist Church gymnasium, located at 217 E Main Street, to drape more than 40 meticulously handcrafted quilts over area service members and veterans.
